Jazz is a musical style that originated in the late 19th Century in Northern America. Specifically, Jazz music originated in the African American communities around New Orleans, Louisiana. Blues and Ragtime preceded Jazz. It was considered “lively” blues. As Jazz music spread throughout the world, the emergence of different styles developed. During the 1920s and 1930s, Jazz music and dance crazes gained popularity. Since the development of recorded sound on acetate and vinyl, from the seven-inch extended-play 45 RPM; to the ten-inch long-playing 33 1/3 RPM albums; to the current twelve-inch albums, record collecting has grown as a hobby and a source of information.

Record collecting can also bring back memories. During our pre-recording for the album presentation of “Yes, Indeed” by Tommy Dorsey, our guest presenter, Carlos Chavez, told us a story about a date that he and his girlfriend had in 1944. Carlos and Maggie (my Mom and Dad) went on their first date to see The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra perform at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Carlos was on leave from duty from the US Marine Corps and was wearing his uniform. They were in a long line to get in. Carlos tells us that the manager saw them in line and immediately escorted them in for a free show. It is a heartfelt story, and we invite you to check that record album out

We hope that you enjoy these records that we selected from our collection, for your listening pleasure. We are proud of our team’s technical and recording personnel. We always give our best effort to record these records and provide the best sound and fidelity that is available. Please enjoy
