I've been doing tejano dj.ing for over twenty yrs, but my love for the west coast chicano style music is forever, I would love to see a Chicano show here in Tucson of bands from california. an all day event. keep up the great work and keeping chicano music playing. Hola Beto man, Just finished listening to your movimiento musica on eastlarevue.com. I just wanted to say I thought it was a great show. I have to admit when I first saw your web picture I thought you were just another homeboy playing oldies and talking about things you never knew or experienced. I guess I'm guilty of judging a book by it's cover. I grew up in Lincoln Heights graduated in S'68 from Lincoln High better known for the walkouts four months prior. My friends and I were some of the first EOP students at Cal-State L.A. who were taken under the wing of U.M.A.S. United Mexican American Students. That was before MECHA. I worked summer jobs before that with The Foundation for Mexican-American Studies, CSO and Youth Leadership Program. They were all run by college activists who were gathering information and trying to enlighten us along the way. During that process we were fortunate to meet people like Tony Rios (CSO) and Cesar Chavez. They were tumultuous times with lots of peaks and valleys but I wouldn't trade them for the world. Growing up in the barrio in the 50's and 60's was a todo madre. It's funny how a person can change. I was burning my draft card in 1968 and today I am a retired TSgt from the Air Force Reserve (that's how I know Steven Chavez) Que loco! Anyhow you keep spinning those rolas and educating our youth. You're doing a great thing.

Hey "Chico", SAM here. Im currently listening to your tribute to MR AVILA.( for about the 100th time) ,I empahsize MR.AVILA because the Man deserves all of our respect ,as does his Family ,now, and forever.Your tribute alone speaks for itself and reflects the interpersonal relationship you had with, not only MR. AVILA, but all your Artist friends. You're not the kind of guy that only speaks highly of someone based upon their passing but you always hold your relationships with the Artists on such a high pedastal and give them the praise and exposure these masters are so, so, so deserving of , which accounts for the fact that You are highly respected in the music world.I wish I had returned to Calif. sooner to have had the opportunity to meet MR. AVILA through you.Since it was my misfortune not to have met him, I thank you for the opportunity to have met him through his music.
Such a talent, such an inspiration, such a beautiful Brother, such a painful, painful loss.My condolences to the AVILAS, You ,and his many, many close friends.
Many people "moonwalked" to Michael Jackson's music but his music never made me want to get up and "throw a mean chanclaso" as MR. AVILA'S music does. Im not taking anything away from MJ ,pero bloods thicker than water , que no?

Hello Chico. This is Big Sal Medrano from Mesa Arizona and I am a big fan of your show. You are Mr. Suave soul Chico. Before EastLArevue, I never knew there was one place to listen to all the music I grew up with. I don’t know of any other stations playing Ralfi Pagan, Joe Bataan, El Chicano, Malo, Tierra, War and then mixing it up with boleros and cha cha’s. My wife Estella says she enjoys your show because you make the listener feel like part of the show. One of these days we will have to take a trip to Califas and visit the rampart studios. If possible, please send us an autographed picture of you doing your show so I can show off. Maybe of you and Mrs. Chico behind the microphone. There are a lot of people that we know that are fans of yours too.

Orale Chico, and all the eastlarevue.com crew. Let me start off by telling you that I enjoy your shows very much. I have your shows locked in and enjoy checking them out. I just finished listening to some of the vinyl classics. Good job bring back the history of vinyl and these historic recordings. Someone should do a show on all 45’s by Thee Midniters or the Premiers or any of the popular East LA sounds bands para que all the listeners can go back in time and remember how we used to listen to all the rolas of the day. Chico, your suave grooves give me motivation ese. You have a cool way about you que it reminds me of how I used to be. It sounds like you enjoy what you do ese and sabes que I know that I really appreciate it. I have been an attorney for over 22 years now and sometimes I need a break from my corporate environment and need to hear some one say “Orale” or “Hijole”. After all who ever broke the law by saying Orale? Believe me I have done my research, I get a kick out of hearing you deliver the music with an orale here and a hijole there. You sound like a cool vato. You remind me of Dr. Loco, do you know him? He is a good friend of mine and he talks just like you do. That is too funny.
Continued success and let me thank you for your music, your talent and your dedication.

Orale, you gente have a way with your music. These sounds take me back. I am so glad I bought a computer 2 years ago. You can’t hear these grooves on regular radio. I tried the site live 365 and they want you to join as a member and then the sound quality is really bad and you have to hear a dumb commercial all the time. I don’t like listening to the songs back to back with no DJ. You guys are the real deal. Keep playing those suave sounds. I used to listen to a show called La Onda Bajita from the Bay Area pero now they just play protest music and talk too much. No more latin soul or suave rolas, thank you guys & ladies for giving us good chicano music lovers a place to tune in. If you can, please play the original versions of Suavecito by Malo and Gema by Tierra for the Cantu’s in Bakersfield.

Hey Chico Man I am enjoying the suave grooves of eastlarevue. I enjoy listening at home and at the office. I work for the City of L.A. in the Planning Department and always have the site on. The other day I was talking to my supervisor and he asked me what I was listening to and he told me that he remembered listening to the Sancho show and your show on KPCC. At first I thought he was mad because I was listening to internet radio while at work but he was all excited knowing that you had your show on and he put it on his computer in his office. Thanks brother for helping score some points with the jefe. His name is David Aguirre. He remembers going to the concerts and buying a sancho t-shirt back in the day. His favorite show was your show and listening to joe bataan and ralfi pagan.
Gracias for the musica.

What a thrill to listen and enjoy your show anytime and all the time. I enjoy every one of your shows. The music brings back many nights sitting "vibes-side" at the Bobby Montez shows at the tiny M Club in east Los Angeles in the 1960s or listening to Chico Sesma or Richard Leos on the radio enjoying all the music of Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria and of course Willie Bobo and Cal Tjader. Cal Tjader was the best known latin jazz combo featuring Vibes but the Montez organization was the real deal; true jazz musica con sabor latino. It was a thrill to see these guys live. In addition to terrific latin jazz these guys exploded with joy that washed over their audiences. Chuck Niles also did a great job on the Jazz spectrum and listening to KBCA 105.1 was tremendo. Your shows capture a lot of that experience. Your show is the modern day version of the Chico Sesma Con Sabor Latino shows. You showcase local talent and musicians and groups that we have never heard of and mix them with the big name groups. Listening to your site takes me way back to my youth in Los Angeles. It reminds of me of how great radio and music was back then. Now I live in Henderson, Nevada and when I am not on the golf course or in the casino I am checking out your show. VIVA CHICO y VIVA EastLArevue.com ! More shows please. Can you please do a vinyl classic with Bobby Montez or Joe Torres ? My wife enjoys listening to the Tejano stuff as she is originally from El Chuco ( El Paso). She also digs the Chico musical pan dulce after all I have to have a dance partner que no?

In 72' I lived up the street from music + and Atlantic Square. At
the time my parents owned

the Chicano Moratorium Me and my 65' Super Sport blasting El Chicano
Viva Tirado with a color bar flashing to the beat. I remember the
Battle of the Bands at ELAC and how in later years we'd all meet on
the front steps of ELAC ( Go Huskies) between classes. I wasa
original member of New Life Car Club and then with a few buddies went
on to start LIFESTYLE Car Club #1 in Cali today. Back then there was
the Klique, Imperials ,Sons of Soul ,New Breed and Midnight Classics
just to name a few. No drivebys or car jackings , (Puro guantes). We
would Chaufer weddings with the flowers on our cars and honking horns
every Saturday. We had the Kennedy Hall ,Montebello Ballroom and
Roger Young and the Pasta House for bailes. We'd park on the
Boulevard and watch the beautiful Chicanas drive by. We'd head up to
San Fernando or down to Santa Ana to show our cars and teach em how
we do it in East Los. Eateries like Gardunos , the B-Bag and Bill's
Paradise and Chronis were weekly stops. It was a good time and I was

Thanking for playing that excellent music. This
site is the best. I have listened to a few others
and the sound quality is not as good. The other
sites dont have the same sound quality.
The music sounds so much better when the quality
is good. Chico please play some more boleros by
Joe Cuba and Tito Puente. Nobody plays that classic
stuff anymore. Also I have a vinyl request, Dance
Mania by Tito Puente. Gracias and continued success

I have a chance to learn and enjoy the programming
your shows provide. I have been a fan of Santanas
music and I like Malo and Tower of Power, but
some of the bands you play are right up there
in quality and originality. I enjoy checking out
the vinyl classics really liked Los Alacranses
those guys play really nice. Beto mans show
is fun to listen to, I dont always listen
to KUCR because he comes on too late. Please continue
doing what you do.

Chico, We have been listening to your show for quite sometime now, actually since Alex Martinez from Latin Experience in Chicago was 1st played on your show...it has been a year or so. Alex and I have never met but we have become very close friends, we always call each other. You play such great music. I used to keep the computer in the spare room but I had to bring it out to the front room hooked it up to the home stereo so that when we entertain friends and family they to can enjoy the show. Because of you I believe that all of the new talent is getting exposure which is good for them and we as fans are blessed to be able to hear them. I have a real close friend Ray Soto from San Jose, Ca. How do we get his music on the air, do we send you a cd ? if so , where does he send it ? Ray currently has 3 cd's the last one is a flamenco with 3 originals and 7 covers. He actually has a lot of originals that have not been recorded yet. Anyway and thank you for the great music.

Mr.Chico, orale thank you for the fine fine musica.
Your selection of music is wonderful. This is
perfect music to listen to at home, the office
or on the road. I have figured out a way to put
your shows into my ipod and it is great. I plug
it into the car and listen all over town and share
it with my familia and camaradas. The EastLAreuve
crew is the best. All of your shows are very professional
and well produced. I think it is great how much
good music you play. Sabes que you mix it just
right, the old with the new and especially all
these groups that I have only heard of but have
never heard their recordings. You should put a
CD together with all of these artists and call
it Chicos Classics. I would be the first
to buy one
matter of fact I would buy many
of them to give to my friends and family. I have
turned them onto your show and the site. Gracias
Chico, say hello to Mrs.Chico, Chino and the whole

Thank you for playing El Chicano's Cha Chita,

I like your show because you play more Latin Jazz,

I am not sure if you have already featured an
Eddie Cano album or not but that would be my request.
He was my wife's second cousin and I remember
the Chicano music awards where you gave his family
an award on his behalf in 1990. We were in attendance
at that concert and you did a great job telling
the story about Eddie and his music. Chico I am

I have turned on so many people to the site. It
is very nice to hear the mix and from people who
are down to earth. Not too mention un suave library
of music Thank you Chico for the Vinyl Classics
the Joe Bataan, Joe Cuba, Mary Wells, Jr and the
Preludes are pure genius and the music still sounds
great after all these years. I have two requests
for the Vinyl Classics; Ralfi Pagan with love
and Francisco Aguabella Hitting Hard Your Valentine
shows con Mrs. Chico and yours are amazing and
the most suave sets I have heard. I have been
listening over and over. Tell Mrs. Chico gracias.
Also, tell the Kool Katz Orale Pues for such a
fine tune, it is very apparent that they admire
your support for their band and speak on behalf
of musicians all over who have such a fine outlet
to call home. You and your show gives them the
exposure and respect they deserve. Chico you deserve
that tune and many more like it. If I was a musician
I would write a tune and call it Chico Suave.
You guys are the 'spot' for that great music you
dont hear anywhere else. I truly appreciate what
you guys do. I know it is alot of hard work pero

only appreciate it but are addicted to the Musical

surrounded by resources from time past, inherited

I think this is the reason this music will never

has proved that the "good old days"
are still alive and well today!! I hope that everybody
listening from all distant places will learn a
little about us, that we love you all. We will
always be connected by art, music and love.
I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Joe Cuba has passed
on. He has joined the great band in the heavens.
I had the pleasure to see him many times in the
early day, when he ventured into L.A. We all leave
this plain sooner or later, but the important
thing is what we leave behind. To live forever
in the music and the art, no one really dies when
we leave our mark, Mr. Cuba left his music for
us to enjoy forever. God Bless.
