Congratulations on the Bobby Espinosa tribute show. Very well balanced. You included the hits along with the more obscure tunes that hardcore El Chicano fans appreciate. It was well sequenced too. Felicidades carnal.

Chico
Tribute to El Chicano show
Thank you for your Bobby Espinosa show. The music of El Chicano will live forever. Thanks to you and your wonderful site, the sound of Bobby’s keyboard can play on. You are right he is a True Chicano music hero right up there with Lalo Guerrero, The Santana’s (Carlos and Jorge), Los Lobos, Thee Midniters, Cannibal and the Headhunters, Poncho Sanchez and now you can add to that list Bobby Espinosa. Chico, thank you for mixing the music you do and for this classic show.

First of all I would like to say orale Chico. Man you are one cool host. I am an avid listener and your show and this eastlarevue site is tremendous. It is nice to have a place to check out good and quality Chicano and Latino sounds. This site should be recognized in the L.A. Times, or Lowrider magazine or some where as one of the best resources for our music. All of the staff and DJ’s who broadcast their music should all get some kind of acknowledgement for all that you do. I have been a fan of El Chicano’s since the early 70’s and it is really sad to know that we lost a legend. Please share my comments on the site so everyone will know just how much your programming is enjoyed. One of these days I would like to meet you and buy you a cold one and thank you in person.

Gee what a great and needed tribute to "Bobby Espinosa and El Chicano." My heart has a hole now I grew up listening to them, Santana, Malo, War, many many more being from NM. Like Carlos Santana once said no immigration and no borders to music...Good bless his family and my deepest sympathies...He is still playing the B3 just from above us to guide us home!
Repectfully,

Chico
Tribute to El Chicano’s Bobby Espinosa show
Orale Chico, we have all suffered a great loss with the passing of Bobby Espinosa and this music and your tribute to him is not only timely but well deserved. Bobby is a Chicano music hero a trend setter and un buen vato de la musica. Everytime I hear Viva Tirado, it reminds me of my youth and growing up in the barrio and how proud I am to be a Chicano. I love this music and cant get enough of it. I have nothing but respect and admiration for your work. I don’t know if you realize how many people out here have been looking and wanting a show like this one. I wish you nothing but continued success. If you have a flyer or something I can email to my friends, it would be an honor to add more listeners to your fan base. Thanks to Latino L.A. and Rampart Records for having the vision of sponsoring such a culturally rich and entertaining show.
My Hats off to you Carnal,
J.R.

Thanks for a great website. The Vinyl Classics is unique and, as George Lopez would say, totally awsome. I immediately downloaded the John Mayall album and boy, did it take me back! Any plans to feature an Al Kooper/Mike Bloomfield disc? Consider me an avid fan. |

Good Show. My man, that tribute at the beginning of the show was nice. I didn’t even know that one of my favorite bands and musicians had hit the charts with their music. the latin soul sound
Chico, I am a huge fan for a long time. This music is infectious and classic. Your playlists of music helps me enjoy a mix of sounds I have never heard before. I have heard a lot of the bands you play before but when you mix them with other groups and the sets you have, it really sounds nice. The latin soul sound never gets old only better with time.

Chico & EastLArevue.com radio crew These are excellent musical offerings from the heart of Aztlan. This is the type of music for your family listens to when they get together when all your primos(cousins), tios(uncles), tias(aunts), carnales(brothers ) and amigos(friends) come over for that bbq. The songs and music you play evoke so many beautiful memories. My Tio Sal was such a music aficionado and collector of musica. He had taught me so much about the history and development of different styles of Chicano music. He was an old pachuco pero he loved his latin jazz tambien. He would have loved listening to your show and the programming on Eastlareuve. I think that is one of the main reasons why I am a fan of your shows. It reminds me of my tio’s style and it takes me back in time and in my mind. Gracias mi hermanito please continue to share those suave grooves and sweet latino gems with us.

Cristina... Thank you so much for your e-mail. It's encouraging to know that people are really listening to the program. It's a lot of work but a lot of fun. We really enjoy putting the program together. Hey, I thought that Valentine's thing was pretty intresting myself...pretty cool. On the music... We're all different age groups so that contributes to the mixture of music we play. We've just recorded our next program and I picked out the music myself. You're gonna hear a little bit of John Mayer, some Chicago and some Mana. I also did a mini thing on "vision." Please let me know what you think. Thanks again Christina.
STAY BLESSED!

I really like the mix of music and diverse selection of artists you feature. It is a joy to listen to your shows and the other DJ’s. Orale Chico and Mrs. Chico, I am always appreciative of your programming. The whole station puts out some sounds that cannot be duplicated anywhere. The whole vibe you guys give out is that we (your listeners) are part of your familia and that is too cool. I cannot tell how many times some one has started asking me about music and how radio used to be especially with the Chicano sounds on KPCC on Saturday nights. My response is to tell them to visit your site and listen to the quality and content of the shows. I have family all over Aztlan including Tejas & New Mexico and they love listening to the musical pan dulce that you guys serve up. You guys should have a concert, I would be the first to buy a ticket.

Chico, we are loyal listeners and have always followed your music. My husband and I used to go to the Chicano music awards at Pasadena City College and we remember you and your shows. Didn’t you come on after the Sancho show and then before the lady that had a blues show? I don’t remember her name. We had many family gatherings and your show was the soundtrack and we enjoyed the mix very much. My husband and I really enjoy the EastLArevue site and it really reminds us of how those musical Saturday nights were back in the day. Isn’t the Internet amazing ? now we can listen all the time and anytime we want. Thank you for keeping our music exposed.

Let me start off by saying gracias for all the beautiful musical pan dulce you play on your show. This old timer Chicano/Latino appreciates your efforts and supports your show and site 100%. I am an avid music fan and the music you play brings back a lot of good memories. Sweet – Dulce memories of days gone by. I don’t remember how I found your show, but I am sure glad that I did. You must have one incredible library of music and some classics for sure. I have been wanting to write you for a long time and now was the right time. I loved hearing Willie G. sing with Malo and that muy nice version of Sitting in the Park – Chicano style oldie. Who is the Nuestro band and how can I get their music? Keep doing what you do hermano you have a dedicated fan and listener.

The second show is off the hook! Very good sound and production. The song selection, mixing, and the audio/vocal with Pastor Gallegos were all top quality. I am sure that the message reached many of our troops and loved ones away from home. This is a mighty tool and media and you guys are using it well.
We welcome you again to the internet site. You guys fill a piece in our plans and long term commitment to the community in Gods name. We are humble to the task and blessed to be able to help. We are here to assist you guys in using this media and in the future of our productions. We like the way that you give our local artists and musicians an opportunity to express and present the music. That is part of our walk.
We should meet in person soon and talk about some Q & A's. We want to meet all the movers and shakers there and Pastor Charlie Gallegos. Of course, Alfred Alva is in the web-master chair. This is Janie Chavez, co-manager and Chrisana's Mom. I also play Dona Pancha on the radio. I help my husband, Steven Chavez, with all the stuff he does.We are happy that you are taking this opportunity that God made available for you. Go for it! We may have another board meeting soon to celebrate and welcome you and another DJ - Hector Resendez. We have some good food at the meetings and we can all meet.
Again, great production and the message of love and sacrifice on Valentine Day was insightful and interesting.

Ray and Josie Ramos,
I listened and enjoyed your show today. Very different.
I have a couple of questions. You played several romantic Mexican tunes, but the singers had a somewhat gachupin accent, specially the letter z. are this people from an specific area of aztlan where the proper way of saying the letter has remained throughout the centuries. I'm thinking Nuevo Mexico.
It was good to hear "viajera," that Luis Alcaraz hit. I made searches but have not found any covers of it.
gracias

Ese Chico, I was too tired to go out last Saturday evening. Stayed in and
listened to two of your latest shows. What a trip. Man, you got a special
ear to pick songs.
It took me back to the KPCC days when we used to stay late to do Airwaves of
Aztlan. A couple of suggestion, you need a traffic reporter with two maracas
to fake the helicopter noise. I liked your "¿Como la ves?" expression. Just
add, "Le pregunto Jose Feliciano a Stevie Wonder."
Keep up the good work."

Comments Just found your station and it's great! I'm a big Renee Olstead fan and it's wonderful to find a station playing her music!
Thanks!

Congratulations and great stuff from all of you..While my collection of 20,000 plus still needs many recordings from all phases of the world I'm glad my friend Chico turned me on to you...I'm learning about some very good soulful acts from the West Coast that I was never exposed to in New York. I've been in LA now for 13 years and have three radio shows but not the luxury of programming from my home as Chico does. keep up the good work. I will be mentioning you guys in my next column.
