Hello Eastlarevue.com & Chico, Mrs. Chico from Glendale, Arizona!

The weather here is hot pero your musica is so cool. Nothing like it anywhere on the dial or online. I am enjoying the selections of music you program on the site. I have one question – Where can I find all this great music ? do you sell CD’s ? I have looked up some of the bands you play and haven’t been able to find anything. Maybe you can add a page where we can find information on the music you play. That would be very helpful. We love the Gozando with Chico show.

Hello Mr. DJ Manqueros. Mira we are listening to you aqui en Albuquerque, New Mexico. I found your show by accident about 6 months ago and I am glad because this music is what I grew up listening to in California. My family lived in Monterey Park, then we moved to Paramount and then later on settled in Covina. My wife and I moved out here about 4 years ago and your show and the EastLA crew give us a nice taste of home. All we need is the guacamole and chips. Even though I never grew up in ELA, I always identified myself with the music from Thee Midniters, Tierra, Willie Bobo, Etc. It is a nice way to reflect on tiempos ya pasados and to enjoy the sounds that have created the soundtracks of our lives. If you get a chansa please play Sabor A Mi by Los Lobos for me. That was our wedding song. I heard you play a few weeks ago a tune I used to hear on KKGO’s Sunday Latin Jazz show. I think it was mi Linda chicana, I don’t remember who did it but I really like that tune.

Gracias,

The Chavaria family

Wow this is a fantastic site. The musica brings back a lot of memories. This is so convenient to listen online and to save the shows to listen to again later. Over the 4th of July I had your shows on and my primos and friends kept asking me who and where the musica was coming from. You know how to mix the right amount of latin, soul and cool sounds to make the listener feel apart of the music and programming. I have never heard of half of the artists you play and that is a good thing because I enjoy hearing the original and local sounds.

I heard you have a new compilation CD out, where can I purchase a copy? What artists/songs are on the CD? Knowing your taste and having listened to your show for many years including the old Sancho Show days, I already know its going to be a killer collection of tunes. Thank you for being there to promote all of the local talent. I am discovering a lot of these bands for the first time thanks to you and reliving the classics and standards of Chicano music too. I was hoping to meet you at Chicano Park but there were so many people and so many booths, my compadre and I gave up. We are huge fans of EastLArevue and the Gozando with Chico show. Hi Chico. I just finished listening to the new Destiny church show.  You and Steven Chavez were on the show as special guests and I could tell you were both having fun. It was nice to hear some of your interesting stories and to learn about your background. I too am a huge Dodger fan and love Vin Scully.  It is nice to know that an educated chicano brother like yourself has this talent to express himself and to pick out and assemble the music you do every week on your show. I like what you said about how you do your show in your own personality.  I think I met Steven years ago at a show the band EastLarevue all-stars was playing at. I just wanted to say gracias for all that you do. Are there any pictures of the interview that will be posted anywhere ? I would like to see the studio and the shirt that Steven was wearing.  I wait for your next offering of musical pan dulce

Thanks Brother, I grew up listening to Latin Jazz all my life ( Chico Sema ) ( Richard leos ) On KBCA which at that time he had his latin show on Saturdays and Moved to Sunday nights ( his opening tune was nessa by Willie Bobo. )Myself I been playing Congas for over 38 years , playing in groups based in East los angeles. 911-Salsa, the Formula we giged at Casa Escobar in Marina del rey.

For two years, Hispanic musician association (under the direction of Eddie Cano) played with Ersi Arvizu and Mickey Lespron with Ersi’s band (City to City )

For two years what a fun and very good band at that time, and played with a band we developed with all the younger Brothers from EL CHICANO we called

The band ‘’ EL Grito ‘’ we were cooking back in the day..My congas of choice are a set of three‘’Skin on skin‘’hand made by the great Jay Berbeck from N.Y.

Made in 88 but the tone from these drums are one of a kind.

You have an outstanding show carrying the tradition of musica latina … keeper of the flame !! we’re a rare breed those that love and understand this Music. Pa gozar..

Hello Eastlarevue.com & Chico Manqueros,

I was referred to your show by talking to my compadre big Sal from Arizona and have been listening for about a year now.

I live in Phoenix Arizona and you just can’t hear the sounds & soul of ELA and California on any radio station here.  Even on line our sources are limited, although we do like listening to Radio Aztlan from UC Riverside. I used to catch the Sancho show once in awhile when it was online but couldn’t listen long. Too much talking over the musica and no information on the artists being played. Thank you Steven and Janie Chavez for putting together such a unique and one of a kind site.  I enjoyed reading about the history of the band and this site is on all the time anywhere that I am.

You guys have a huge following here in the Glendale and Phoenix area.

EastLArevue.com has one hell of a music library. You cant find this kind of programming and information anywhere on the internet or the radio anymore. The story about Maestro Pantoja was excellent. Your tribute show captured his music that spawned some many years from the days with Willie Bobo to his work here in L.A. and of course Malo and Azteca. This is top notch programming.

Hi Chico!  Let me introduce myself to you.  My name is Joe Delgadillo and I grew up in the ELA / Montebello area.  Me and my family would go to all the bailes at the El Monte Legion Stadium that were promoted by Art Laboe and all of the local dances in the ELA area.  We were especially fans of the Midniters, Ambertones, Armenta Brothers and I used to go to the Record Inn and buy all my LP’s and 45’s.  I started listening to this show on Saturday nights on KPCC in the mid 80’s called the Sancho Show and man was I blown away.  I listened to your shows with that girl not sure what her name was maybe Snuggles ? but I always have been a fan of yours.  A good friend of mine told me about this eastlareview site about 2 years ago and now I listen almost every day. I have about 2 years worth of your shows from Kpcc recorded on cassette. Your shows all bring back the sounds I grew up listening to.  I am a huge Willie Bobo fan and I remember checking him out at the Pasta house with all the guys from Tierra and other bands that would be there.  It was like the place to be seen and to be seen dancing to Willie Bobo and all of his great musical repertoire.

Thank you Eastlarevue, Chico, Steven Chavez, Howard and to the Vinyl Classic producers for not letting our musical history die away.

Regarding your Bobby Espinoza tribute show:

Thank you EastLArevue for paying tribute to a Chicano Musical Icon. I grew up enjoying the music of El Chicano and this band opened up so much more musical treasures for me. Their rich sound of Latin, Rock and Jazz demonstrated to the world that Chicanos could create their own musical voice and sound.  I was very saddened to hear that Bobby had passed away.  I saw the band several times and will cherish those memories.  This tribute on your station is another example of the professional and educational programming that your unique station offers.

All the best,

Marcos

Mr & Mrs Chico, thank you for sharing your passion for musica with your listening audience. Not only is your show great to listen to but I can recommend it to friends and family and be proud that your show is about familia.  I really don’t know why the programming on EastLArevue can’t be on regular radio.  This music is too good not to have an outlet on broadcast radio.  Your site has to be one of best kept secrets in Chicano music.  I always have it on and I am hooked on a good feeling an EastLArevue.com musical feeling. Y sabes que the music feels just right.

I am a huge El Chicano fan and all of the tunes you played are my favorites. I hope someone does a tribute to El Chicano recording or concert that would be really nice to honor Bobby and his musical contributions.

Tribute to El Chicano show

Thank you for your Bobby Espinosa show. The music of El Chicano will live forever. Thanks to you and your wonderful site, the sound of Bobby’s keyboard can play on. You are right he is a True Chicano music hero right up there with Lalo Guerrero, The Santana’s (Carlos and Jorge), Los Lobos, Thee Midniters, Cannibal and the Headhunters, Poncho Sanchez and now you can add to that list Bobby Espinosa.  Chico, thank you for mixing the music you do and for this classic show.

First of all I would like to say orale Chico.  Man you are one cool host.  I am an avid listener and your show and this eastlarevue site is tremendous.  It is nice to have a place to check out good and quality Chicano and Latino sounds.  This site should be recognized in the L.A. Times, or Lowrider magazine or some where as one of the best resources for our music.  All of the staff and DJ’s who broadcast their music should all get some kind of acknowledgement for all that you do. I have been a fan of El Chicano’s since the early 70’s and it is really sad to know that we lost a legend.  Please share my comments on the site so everyone will know just how much your programming is enjoyed.  One of these days I would like to meet you and buy you a cold one and thank you in person.

Gee what a great and needed tribute to "Bobby Espinosa and El Chicano." My heart has a hole now I grew up listening to them, Santana, Malo, War, many many more being from NM. Like Carlos Santana once said no immigration and no borders to music...Good bless his family and my deepest sympathies...He is still playing the B3 just from above us to guide us home!

Tribute to El Chicano’s Bobby Espinosa show

Orale Chico, we have all suffered a great loss with the passing of Bobby Espinosa and this music and your tribute to him is not only timely but well deserved. Bobby is a Chicano music hero a trend setter and un buen vato de la musica.  Everytime I hear Viva Tirado, it reminds me of my youth and growing up in the barrio and how proud I am to be a Chicano.  I love this music and cant get enough of it.  I have nothing but respect and admiration for your work.  I don’t know if you realize how many people out here have been looking and wanting a show like this one.  I wish you nothing but continued success. If you have a flyer or something I can email to my friends, it would be an honor to add more listeners to your fan base.  Thanks to Latino L.A. and Rampart Records for having the vision of sponsoring such a culturally rich and entertaining show.

My Hats off to you Carnal,

Chico, I am a huge fan for a long time. This music is infectious and classic.  Your playlists of music helps me enjoy a mix of sounds I have never heard before.  I have heard a lot of the bands you play before but when you mix them with other groups and the sets you have, it really sounds nice. The latin soul sound never gets old only better with time.

Chico & EastLArevue.com radio crew These are excellent musical offerings from the heart of Aztlan. This is the type of music for your family listens to when they get together when all your primos(cousins), tios(uncles), tias(aunts), carnales(brothers ) and amigos(friends) come over for that bbq. The songs and music you play evoke so many beautiful memories. My Tio Sal was such a music aficionado and collector of musica. He had taught me so much about the history and development of different styles of Chicano music. He was an old pachuco pero he loved his latin jazz tambien. He would have loved listening to your show and the programming on Eastlareuve. I think that is one of the main reasons why I am a fan of your shows. It reminds me of my tio’s style and it takes me back in time and in my mind. Gracias mi hermanito please continue to share those suave grooves and sweet latino gems with us.

STAY BLESSED!

Orale Chico and Mrs. Chico, I am always appreciative of your programming.  The whole station puts out some sounds that cannot be duplicated anywhere.  The whole vibe you guys give out is that we (your listeners) are part of your familia and that is too cool.  I cannot tell how many times some one has started asking me about music and how radio used to be especially with the Chicano sounds on KPCC on Saturday nights. My response is to tell them to visit your site and listen to the quality and content of the shows.  I have family all over Aztlan including Tejas & New Mexico and they love listening to the musical pan dulce that you guys serve up. Subject: congrats on second show

The second show is off the hook! Very good sound and production. The song selection, mixing, and the  audio/vocal with Pastor Gallegos were all top quality. I am sure that the message reached many of our troops and loved ones away from home. This is a mighty tool and media and you guys are using it well.

We welcome you again to the internet site. You guys fill a piece in our plans and long term commitment to the community in Gods name. We are humble to the task and blessed to be able to help. We are here to assist you guys in using this media and in the future of our productions. We like the way that you give our local artists and musicians an opportunity to express and present the music. That is part of our walk.
We should meet in person soon and talk about some Q & A's. We want to meet all the movers and shakers there and Pastor Charlie Gallegos. Of course, Alfred Alva is in the web-master chair. This is Janie Chavez, co-manager and Chrisana's Mom. I also play Dona Pancha on the radio. I help my husband, Steven Chavez, with all the stuff he does.We are happy that you are taking this opportunity that God made available for you. Go for it! We may have another board meeting soon to celebrate and welcome you and another DJ - Hector Resendez. We have some good food at the meetings and we can all meet.
Again, great production and the message of love and sacrifice on Valentine Day was insightful and interesting.

Ray and Josie Ramos,
I listened and enjoyed your show today. Very different.
I have a couple of questions. You played several romantic Mexican tunes, but the singers had a somewhat gachupin accent, specially the letter z. are this people from an specific area of aztlan where the proper way of saying the letter has remained throughout the centuries. I'm thinking Nuevo Mexico.
It was good to hear "viajera," that Luis Alcaraz hit. I made searches but have not found any covers of it.

gracias

Ese Chico, I was too tired to go out last Saturday evening. Stayed in and
listened to two of your latest shows. What a trip. Man, you got a special
ear to pick songs.
It took me back to the KPCC days when we used to stay late to do Airwaves of
Aztlan. A couple of suggestion, you need a traffic reporter with two maracas
to fake the helicopter noise. I liked your "¿Como la ves?" expression. Just
add, "Le pregunto Jose Feliciano a Stevie Wonder."
Keep up the good work."

Congratulations and great stuff from all of you..While my collection of 20,000 plus still needs many recordings from all phases of the world I'm glad my friend Chico turned me on to you...I'm learning about some very good soulful acts from the West Coast that I was never exposed to in New York. I've been in LA now for 13 years and have three radio shows but not the luxury of programming from my home as Chico does. keep up the good work. I will be mentioning you guys in my next column.
