Mr Chavez, my name is David H.Sanchez and I work at
Brooke Army Medical Center at Ft.Sam Houston Army
Post. I would like to commend you on the outstanding
program that you so professionally created on your
web site. Honoring both our Men and Women of our Armed
Forces, Hospitals, and Naval Air Stations is an unselfish
accomplishment by you Sir and everyone that is involved
with making this show The Unsung Heroes
come across this great Country of ours. You really
made my day when you sent the special dedications
to our Logistics Area here at BAMC and even more so
while mentioning names. We take pride in providing
our share for the rehabilitating efforts of our Soliders.Being
a Vietnam Veteran myself, I cannot remember anyone
doing anything special for Veterans of that era. It
is good to know that people like you take the time
to honor everyone that is involved in which ever way
with the awesome task of helping our Military personnel
return to a completely different way of life. I would
also like to thank Mr. Robert Gonzales for actually
putting us in touch with the www.eastla.com web site.
I can honestly say that I really do enjoy your website
and everything involved with it. I have passed this
site on to several friends to include Laredo and Corpus
Christi Texas. So you can bet that you have many listeners
all over South Texas. Again Mr. Chavez, please accept
my congratulations on the out come of your Show that
was dedicated to our Armed Forces and supporting entities
that give their best for the same.

Hi Steven,
I really had a great time at the Joe
Bataan concert on Sunday! It was wonderful because
we all had such awesome seats! I had no idea that
it was going to be such an intimate venue. I dare
to brag that I went to a private concert. To be in
the same room with such a great presence as Joe Bataan
made me feel very, very special. Wow!! It was his
birthday too...with cake and candles.... what an honor
it was for me! He was everything and more than I expected.
Rocky Padilla was tremendous! He has
an amazing voice and powerful charisma. It was his
authority on stage that had the influence to carry
the show with fun and dancing to the end. What an
impressive performer!
I thought The Kool Kats sounded better
the first time I saw them at the Raddisson. Im
sorry
but, my friends and I couldnt hear
or understand any of the lyrics. Maybe the sound needed
adjusting? In fact, the sound and the lighting are
about the only things that could have been improved.
I bought T-shirts, CDs and it
was really nice that they were all there after the
concert to autograph them.
Chico, Frankie Firme, Peter, you and
all the staff were marvelous hosts and I really appreciate
all your efforts in providing quality entertainment.

Thanks to Rampart Records and Frankie Firme for producing
this great compilation of Chicano musicians from Southern

I do remember the la times boys club when I saw those

I close my eyes at night and I could still smell the
flowers of the night.
For a moment I'm back in Lhts, 1969

your web site gets me a little home sick. L.A does
not feel the same any more, cruzing down Whittier

dudes that grew up in the barrios, 1950 and late 60's,
music you never thought you would hear again, you
guys bring back those times.
I'm only 44 yrs old , some guys would
tell me you were not even born when that music was

Hello to all!! Kelly the Kat & The
Kool Katz Band are back in San Jose..
This past weekend, The Kool Katz Band
traveled to Southern California for what turned out
to be a "Whirlwind Experience". From the
moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The
people of Southern California welcomed The Kool Katz
with open arms and hearts. On Friday (July 13th),
we were the guests of honor at a dinner arranged by
Steve & Janie Chavez of Rampart Records and East
LA Revue, Erik "Chico" & Terri Manqueros
"Gozando with Chico Show" along with their
two beautiful daughters and Frankie Firme "The
Al Capone of the Microphone." The dinner was
held at Paul's Kitchen in Monterey Park. The food
was excellent and the company was exquisite. Kelly
even got up and gave a bone-chilling rendition of
"What's Up" by the Three Non-Blondes. This
prompted Peter Jaramillo, promotor for the Radisson
Whittier Hotel to get up and introduce Kelly from
the Kool Katz Band in town to perform at their club.
On Saturday (July 14th), we performed at the club
Banners Lounge in the Radisson Whittier Hotel. The
crowd welcomed the Kool Katz Band and showed their
Southern California hospitality. To our surprise,
Malo was playing for a birthday party at the same
hotel. When Malo finished their last set, they wandered
into the club where we were playing and enjoyed our
show. We invited Malo to come up and perform Nena
with the Kool Katz and all of a sudden…….we
had about 20 musicians on stage and gave the people
of Southern California a powerful performance. It
was one of the weekends highlights!! On Sunday (July
15th), we opened for the Midnight Productions, "Tribute
to the Legends of the 60's and 70's". Also performing
were, The Temptations, Chi-Lites, Marvellettes, Delfonics,
Stylistics, Temprees, Shirelles and the "Bad
Boyz of Oldies", Rocky Padilla and Cory Silva.
There were lots of people and good music. Once again,
the people of Southern Cali showed the Kool Katz Band
much love.
The weekend went by too fast but we would like to
extend a gigantic Kool Katz THANK YOU to the following
people:
Steve and Janie Chavez, President of Rampart Records
and East LA Revue, Our Agent Eric "Chico"
and Terri Manqueros, Executive Producer and Host of
East LA Revue, Frankie Firme the "Al Capone of
the Microphone" and his wife Josie, Peter Jaramillo,
Promotor, Radisson Whittier Hotel, Alfred Alva, master
of the website, Paul's Kitchen, Midnight Productions,
especially Cory Silva for giving the Kool Katz a chance
to be a part of his show and to Malo, thank you for
your promptu performance with our band and we hope
to work together in the future.
We look forward to returning to Southern
California in the near future. Until then, all our
love to the beautiful people of Southern California.

It was Firme,I was wondering if you already put out
that revue to listen to?? How do I go about getting
the revue?? Like to check it out.. Enjoy all your
music, from Arizona and we don't have to many Chicano
Bands. The last Chicano Event was the 'Ceasar Chavez
Event' That was Hot, We listened to The Latin Voices
with Jorge Santana, Bobby Espinoza and Malo. It was
great But short, they only played 3 long sets and
had a slide show of Ceasar Chavez and his life for
the Chicano Communities and the American Workers who
worked in the fields, it brought Unity but was a small
crowd mayby about 200 people. I look forward every
Sunday Me and My Ol'Man check out your Music Every

~ Thank you so much for taking the time to put together
such a quality production. No where else have I found
folks that have such heart for "la Musica"

the Latin soul...We're out here!!!! What better place
than L.A. to perpetuate our musical roots. Keep up
the excellent work and know that if you play it, we

Hello Steven and Frankie!
Greetings from a homie living in Copenhagen,
Denmark.
Originally, born in East Los Angeles and raised in
Highland Park living here in Europe with my Danish
wife since 1990.
Listen my brothers, I just wanted to
let you guys know about my CD, Old School Lovin
which will be released first here in Europe within
the next 10 days!! After that, Im coming home
with my CDs to get the music out to my people
in the USA. Starting with my hometown, Los Angeles.
Im not real sure exactly when Im coming
but if all things go as I pray, Ill be there
sometime in July.
Steven knows about this project already
but I wanted to reach out to the both of you guys.
My album was recorded here in Copenhagen
but mixed by Al Greens long time producer, Mr.
Willie Mitchell and his son, Boo Mitchell in Memphis,
Tennessee.
I have brought to Europe that East side
vibe. Like the saying goes, You can take the homie
out of the hood but you cannot take the hood out of
the homie. Maybe its my own version of the saying
but it is relative.
Many people here that have heard it
love it. But the truth is, Im not sure how these
Northern Europeans will actually relate to it. Take
it to their hearts.
But Im sure that you two and all the other good
people in Califas will not only relate to it, you
will have a sense of pride that this music, brand
new music written by me and partly with my band members,
have been able to present some excellent music that
is rooted from all those East side gigs I did growing
up in L.A.
Gigs like the Hobit, Rudys Pasta
House where I sat in on trombone with Tierra back
in the day. (I was a roommate with Phillip Madayag,
the drummer with Tierra during the Together
days), all those great gigs when bands played the
same night together, one after the other. Tierra,
Horizon, Sting, Tabu, We the People, Willie G, Bertha,
and so many others. These are my roots. But now, Im
planting those same roots across the Atlantic, here
in Europe. But this music which is a branch from the
tree of East L.A. must be brought back for everyones
enjoyment.
I ask you both to help me accomplish
this dream and vision I have to introduce to all the
people in Califas, mainly L.A. This very great music
I am extremely proud of.

Que Pasa Mi Hermano,
I'm dropping you a line to express my appreciation
for the fine work you are doing in spreading and sharing
the wealth (that is Pan Dulce). I've recently taken
a short rendezvous to the City of Angels while enjoying
your previous shows - which by the way, never get
old. I had a blessed time and to my pleasant surprise
upon my return, there it was! A new serving of musical
Pan Dulce. Just goes to show that one just can't get
enough of a good thing. Thanks for the shout-out -
it was a nice touch and much appreciated. I, on my
end am trying to spread the word about esta buena
onda. And so far, many of them have responded enthusiastically.
I wish you and yours continued success in what is
proving to be an outstanding show. This is what you
get when you share the best of the best. So in the
memorable words of Christopher Walken, "The only
cure for my fever is more Cowbell". . . . . .
. . . . . Vaya Chico.

Dear Mr. Chavez,
first of all, allow me to introduce myself. My name
is Frank Espejo and I am a long time friend of Erik
Chico Manqueros.
I am a retired Police Sergeant and had the pleasure
of meeting Chico earlier in my career when I worked
for Montebello PD.
Don't worry ,Chico was never in any kind of trouble
with law. I happened to meet him when he was the co-radio
host for "that other show in Pasadena".
I think I was the only Police Officer that listened
to Latin jazz in his Police car on Saturday nights.
To make a long story short, I discovered that Erick
and the Familia were residents of Montebello and we
soon hooked up and have been the best of friends ever
since.
Needless to say I have been very, very proud of Chico
, his talent, stream of success and his never-ending
passion and devotion to the Latino music industry.
I often wonder how he does it all, ,juggling a family
life ,a very demanding full time job and yet, finds
the time to put together extremely coordinated programs, interviews
and meetings with the best musicians in the business,
hosting numerous award ceremonies and the list goes
on and on.
Sadly enough I left California , a good friend of
mine and his family behind, that being the Manqueros
Familia.
I am now a "Tejano" living in San Antonio
(also known as IBEASAM which means I Be A San Antonio
Mexican).
Well, making a long story even shorter, I recently
spoke to Erik and I was excited to learn about "Gozando
With Chico" on the East LA Revue program. WOW
that was better than the Barbacoa they got out here!
I for one, support Erik 100% in his endeavors to get
this program implemented here in San Antonio and I
m willing to do my part to ensure Erik's success.
This gift couldn't have come at a more opportune time
since so many, many Californians are
moving to Tejas.
There is no doubt in my mind this will be an overwhelming
success because like myself, so many "Californios"
long to hear those magnificent "Rolas" that
Chico is so good at playing.
well Sir, I apologize for being long-winded but there
is just too, too many good things to say about Chico
and his talent. The man's just untouchable, unstoppable
and unbelievable.
Sincerely, Frank ( IBEASAM ) Espejo.

Que Pasa Chico, Let me start off by
saying I'm new to your show, I came across it by accident
and became an instant fan. So that goes to prove that
not all accidents are neccesarily bad. My question
to you is about new shows. All I'm living on right
now is show #20 and #21. Don't get me wrong, they're
still pretty firme. I don't know how often you update
your site, I've made your site one of my top-picks
and visit it daily, but still find that the same shows
are still there for grabs. So, how often do you guys
upload new shows? Second half of my question is are
there any archived shows available? Any help on that
would me much appreciated. Continued success with
your outstanding work bringing us only the finest
in Latin Rolas.- Jess

Hi Chico. What a fantastic show you have! Juanita
and I were listening to your programs last night and
I have to tell you that you have the best Latin jazz
show around! I am very proud to call you a friend.
Please send me a copy of the last 4 shows they are
out of sight! Where do you find all this music? I
like the tune by Joe Bataan and Gil Scott Heron, I
played with him once in Oakland. Also, I liked the
Cumbia Del Sol by Mystique. I also sit in with them
from time to time when I am back in the Bay Area.
I am still looking forward to doing those promo spots
for you. Thank you for playing our version of Linda
Chicana that is one of Sheila's favorite tunes. I
have forwarded a link of your show for her to listen
to. Sheila will be on the Alma awards airing tomorrow
night on ABC. I will be performing with the band tomorrow
for KJazz at Hollywood and Highland at a free show.
Let me know if you can make it. I would love to see
you. Please tell Mike Alley I said hello. I am working
on a new CD and the live DVD will be out soon. WWW.PeteEscovedo.com
You are doing a great job for us musicians and I really
appreciate it. Hopefully, we can make it out to see
Art and Kelly when they play in Whittier. Did you
help them with that? That is great they deserve it
and they are great people. I love their band.
Take care and God Bless,
Pops.
